COMPASS Parent Training Series
The COMPASS Program—an eight-week virtual learning series created to empower parents and caregivers as equal partners in special education decision-making.
Grounded in the mission of Family Matters, COMPASS builds on what families already know best, their children, supports you in navigating the special education system with confidence and clarity.
Over eight weekly sessions, COMPASS provides a
clear roadmap for understanding special education from early childhood through adulthood.
Each session includes optional readings, videos, and trusted resources. Families are encouraged to bring questions, experiences, and reflections.
Topics build from week to week and include:
Foundations of Special Education (IDEA & Section 504)
Understanding the IEP and Meaningful Participation
Procedural Safeguards and Dispute Resolution
Early Intervention and Early Childhood Services
Mental Health, Behavior, and Discipline Protections
Secondary Transition Planning
Self-Advocacy and Student Voice
